PINE TREES BURNED

Fire in Council Reserve Fire, which broke in the gdrse on the Tinakorl Hills yesterday morning, worked its way into the Wellington Cit.v Council reserve near the wireless transmitting station, and destroyed about 10 acres of pine trees, planted about six years ago. The fire brigade and a number of voluntary helpers managed to confine the fire to this area, saving the remaining 90 acres. About two hours were spent in getting the fire under control, and in the early stages adjoining properties were menaced. Calls were also received by the brigade yesterday to small grass fires in Crawford Road, Kilbirnie; Lerwick Terrace, Lyall Bay; and on Mount Victoria, but the fires were extinguished before any serious damage was done.
