“Black Hand” in America (From “The Dominion.” February 2, 1910.) Some months ago the United States secret service police arrested at Marion, Ohio, an Italian fruit dealer named Sam L'lilti who was believed to be one of the principals of the “Black Hand” organisation. Lima’s house, which was thought to lie the headquarters of the Black Hand of the United States, was found to be filled with incriminating letters decorated with skulls and crossbones and bleeding hearts. Seven other men were also arrested. The investigation was carried out by secret police in conjunction with postal inspectors, who declared that the back room of Lima’s fruit shdp was filled with letters which cast light on many successful attempts to exhort money from wealthy Italians.
