WEDDINGS

Blundell—Johnston In the beautiful garden of Sir Francis Bell’s residence at Lowry Bay the wedding took place on Saturday afternoon of his granddaughter, Caroline Margaret Featherstone, only daughter of the Hon, Mr. Justice and Mrs. Johnston, and Percy Warwick Blundell, second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. F. Blundell, Heretaunga. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Milligan. The day was beautifully warm, tempered by the suggestion of a southerly breeze. The 500 guests, who had come from all parts of New Zealand, entered by the back drive and went straight to the seats set in- rows on a side lawn, and divided into two blocks by a red carpet which led to a table arranged as an altar,: beneath a huge old spreading lime'tree. On each side stood a green tub of heavily-flowering blue hydrangeas, and blue hydrangeas were massed beneath the table in the space between the green lawn and the white altar cloth.

At 3 o’clock the bridal procession made its appearance, coming slowly down an avenue of trees, the light and shade playing on the graceful, shimmering gowns of the bride, who walked with her father, and her attendants. The bride’s lovely gown was of magnolia satin, made with a long train that hung from the waist, and was inset with narrow panels of shadow net At the waist in front was a posy of pearl flowers, and she wore a string of pearls, a present from an aunt in England. Her tulle veil, a gift from an English friend, fell from a coronet of pearl flowers, and her bouquet was a

sheath of cream roses. Her train was carried by,a small page, . Michael Bell, a cousin. Another cousin,. Priscilla Bell, with David White- (Masterton), followed, the former In a hlgh-waisted frock with the long skirt shirred to the ground, and a wreath and sash matching'those of' the older bridesmaids. The pages, were in Kate Greenaway suits with magnolia satin blouses and long trousers of jade green. The bridesmaids were Miss Sheila MacGregor (Hastings), Miss Margaret Whyte, Miss Penelope Blundell, a sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Heather Mackenzie and Miss Margaret Levin, cousins of the bride. The colour of their mariette frocks carried on the deep creme scheme of the group, and they were made with waterfall frills from the waist to the slight trains at the back, and shoulder capes. A touch of contrast was given by jade-green, satin sashes, and by the jade-green stalks of the pearl flowers of the wreaths on their heads, and the pale pink roses of which their bouquets were made. i

The bridegroom’s brother, Mr. Denis Blundell, was best man, and the groomsmen were Mr. Denis Young, Mr. Peter Johnston (brother of the bride), Mr. Ted Zohrab, and Mr. Herbert Richardson (Christchurch). At the conclusion of the ceremony the bride and bridegroom took' their place at the foot of a flight of steps leading from the main lawn to the terrace, on which the house stands, with the bridesmaids, best man, groomsman, and the two little pages, grouped around and above them. The guests were received on the lawn by Sir Francis and Lady Bell and Mr. Justice and Mrs. Johnston. The wedding breakfast was set in a double marquee, one side of which was open. There were small tables for the guests, and on the bride’s table stood a three-tiered cake, its icing of magnolia colour, and decorated with tiny baskets of red roses instead of the usual horseshoes and slippers. Red roses were banked at the base, and the table decorations were of red roses. The health of the bride was proposed by the R-t. Hon. J. G. Coates, and this was followed by a happy speech by Sir Francis Bell. Mrs. Johnston wore a dress of black chiffon patterned with soft-coloured flowers and a black picture hat, and carried a bouquet of pink roses. Lady Bell’s gown of powder-blue lace and chiffon was worn with a large black hat, and roses in pale sunset shades formed her bouquet. Miss Enid Bell was in navy and white crepe de chine, with a wide brimmed navy hat. Grey lace was worn by Mrs. Hector Rolleston, with a large hat bf blue straw. Mrs. Geoffrey Denniston (Wanganui) wore a frock of putty lace with matching hat, and Mrs. Cheviot Bell, brown figured crepe de chine with brown straw hat. They all carried lovely bouquets of late summer roses. Mrs. Percy Blundell’s sleeveless gown of midnight blue chiffon had a heavily-beaded silver yoke with a V neck-line, her wide picture hat was trimmed with drooping ostrich plumes shaded from beige to blue, and her

bouquet was of deep yellow roses. Miss Barbara Blundell' wore a youthful frock of lime-green organdie with a matching picture hat. Among the presents which were arranged in the house were a canteen of silver from Sir Francis and Lady Beil, and a sapphire ring and bracelet from Mrs. Johnston. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a leather suitcase with jade green fittings. The bride’s going-away dress was of paton-pink crepe, which she wore with a long coat of brown sand-crepe and a pink hat. The guests invited were: The Rt. Hon. G.W. Forbes and Mrs. Forbes, the Rt.
