NEXT CITY COUNCIL
N.Z. Legion Announces Five Candidates MR. HISLOP SUPPORTED Five cuncllclates for seats on the Wellington City Council at the municipal election in May have been selected bv the New Zealand Legion in connection with tlie legion’s campaign to effect local body reform. They are: Messrs. Will •Appleton, W. Duncan, W. J. Gaudin, Martin Luckie, and Leonard W. McKenzie.
All are members of the legion, and with the exception of Mr. Luckie, who did not stand for election as a councillor at the last pell, all are members of the present council. For the city Mayoralty the legion has decided to support the candidature of Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who has signified his support of local body reform based on the main principles of larger administrative areas under central local authority with increased powers while preserving representation of all interests. says an official statement. Although the legion does not contemplate contesting the whole of the 15 vacancies occurring on the council, it may, at a later date, announce additional candidates
