During a cricket match at Dannevirke last Wednesday a player opened his shoulders to a rising ball and landed it on the high grandstand. Apparently another ball was not available, and the services of the Dannevirke Fire Brigade, which was practising in the Domain, had to be requisitioned. A telescopic ladder was run up to the roof of the stand. A player mounted and instead of returning the lost ball returned quite a shower of cricket balls.
