Steak and Eggs — For the evening meal aboard H.M.A.S. Australia the other day, the galley staff grilled 200 lbs. of steak and fried more y than 500 eggs. “What’ll you have for tea, sir?” said the cook to the captain bold. . “It’s all of it on the quay, sir. *" ' in quantities untold. We’ve mutton, pork and brisket, and tons of bread and jam, and if you care to risk it there's prime New Zealand lamb. A hundred pounds of beetroot, sir, will just go round the crew: it’s juicy, red and sweet fruit, sir, - —l’ll put an extra pound in. sir. just specially for you!” But the captain only sought a simple meal instead. “I want a food for thought—bring steak and eggs," he said. “A pint of rum (Jamaican, sir), should keep your spirits high, and if it don’t our bacon, sir, . our rich and streaky bacon, sir. (a cook can’t be mistaken, sir) .will know the reason why.” i But the captain’s brow was black; x he firmly shook his head, and he gave his answer back: “Just steak and eggs,” he said. “Two hundred! pounds of steak, aye, aye!
