Wellington Market Firm YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS There was more activity on the Wellington stock and share market yesterday with values ruling firm. Government loans were in strong demand, with a hardening tendency and very few sellers. Banks were more active. Australasias sold at £ll/10/6, National of New Zealands at £3/11/3, New South Wales at £3l/10/-, and New Zealands late on Monday at 49/3. Holders of New Zealands were asking 49/6 yesterday, 2d. up on Monday, while Reserve Banks were wanted at £6/11/9, sellers holding for £6/13/-, an advance of 6d. on both Quotations. Insurance shares were in more demand, National of New Zealand being wanted at 21/9, New Zealands at £3/8/6, and South British at £4/16/9, with no sellers in the market. New Zealand Refrigerating, £1 paid, sold at 21/3, with late buyers offering 21/- and sellers holding for 21/4, while the 10/- paid were wanted at 10/-, sellers asking 10/5. British Tobaccos were firmer with a sale at 40/2. In the mining section Big Rivers sold at 2/6, while Alexanders hardened, buyers raising their offers to 17/- and sellers holding for 18/-. FREIGHT BY AIR New Guinea Service Approximately 12.000 tons of freight have been carried by air for the Bulolo Gold Dredging Company, Limited, New Guinea, according to a statement made by the chairman, Mr. O. A. Banks, at the annual meeting of the company. A recent accident caused by the shifting of cargo as a machine was leaving the ground was the first since the service was established in 1931. The operating cost of the service had been steadily reduced, and now the total cost, excluding amortisation, was equal to about £l2/2/- in Australian currency a ton, on the basis of 300 tons a month.
