Wellington College Old Boys

The school colours, yellow and black, decorated the gymnasium at the Wellington Boys’ College, last night, when the old boys c«f the college gave a dance as a continuation of their reunion and jubilee celebrations.

The hostesses for the evening were Mrs. W.i A. Armour (wife of. the principal), Mrs. George Mitchell and Mrs. St. John Beere. Mr. and Mrs. Armour received the guests. Nurses’ Bridge Evening

A bridge evening was recently held at the Nurses’ Home of the Napier Hospital, under the auspices of the Hawke’s Bay branch of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association, for the purpose of raising funds for the Florence Nightingale Scholarship, which is being conducted jointlj’ by the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association and the New Zealand Red Cross' Societies. The object of the scholarship is to send a nurse to Bedford College, London University, for the 193435 course. The sitting-rooms at’ the home were beautifully decorated with iceland poppies, nutirrhinums and ranunculi. Tile guests were received by Miss L. M. Croft, president of the branch, and Miss H. Smallbone, secretary. The prizes for the highest scores were won by Miss Marie Stead and Mr. Cumming, both of Hastings. After the play, supper was served by the nurses

Dannevirke Garden Party

Beautiful weather prevailed for a garden party held at the residence of the Hon. E. A. and Mrs. Ransom under the auspices of the Dannevlrke Knox Church. There was a record attendance of approximately 250 adults, who were mainly attracted by the garden, which was seen at its best. Throughout the afternoon music was played by Miss Carston’s orchestra, while a minuet was presented by a party of Dannevlrke High School girls under the conductorship of Miss Constance Miller. Kitchen Evening

Miss Dorothy Craven was the guest of honour recently at a “green kitchen evening,”, the hostess being Miss Dulcie Stafford. Competitions and games were held and delightful musical and elocutionary items were given by Misses Audrea Lawson and Vera Parry On behalf of the staff of Carter anil Co., a presentation was made to MisS (raven. Among those present were Misses Collier, Edmeades, Graham, Sliankie. Vera Parry. Audrea Lawson, I’at McGahey, Mary and Nancy Cavell, Dulcie and Nola Stafford.

College ’Tennis

The old and present girls of the Wanganui Girls’ College Hehl their annual tennis match recently on the school courts, when the old girls were victorious. Afternoon tea was provided by the old girls’ team, which comprised Airs. Stott and Alisses Al. Jack, B. Pownall, AL Alitcalfe, J. Treloar, and A. AlcPhail.

Fancy Dresses

A delightful afternoon was spent by the parents and children of the AVanganui East School on Thursday afternoon, when a fancy dress parade and exhibition of dancing was held in the school grounds. A movie picture was taken of the proceedings.

Pleasant Gift Evening

A pleasant evening was spent at the Orange Hall, Alastertou, on Wednesday night, when a gift evening was given in honour of the forthcoming wedding of Aliss Connie Wink to Mr. Max Alanson. There was a large attendance of friends, and tlie guests of honour recetved a wide assortment of useful gifts. The night was spent in darning, and during a u interval opportunity was taken to wisli Aliss Wink and Mr. Alanson future happiness. The hostesses were Alesdames F. Groube, E. Smith and AL Fly.

E.S.U. Social Afternoon

There was a particularly large gathering of members and friends at the final social afternoon for this year held by the ladies’ committee of the EnglishSpeaking Union in (he Dominion Farm, ers’ Institute yesf.erdav.

Air. Gordon Bryan, who recently arrived from London, was present, and gave great pleasure by playing a cycle of his own songs, which were sung by Aliss Douglas. Aliss Hurst also sang, and Aliss Black, ehairman of the ladies’ social committee, spoke a few words. Afternoon tea was handed round by the hostesses for the afternoon. Airs. C. E. Carter and Airs. A. Dunean, and the committee.

Bridge Party

A successful bridge party was given by Mrs. George Johnson, “Killnra.” Upland Road, recently in aid of funds for the Plunket .Society.

Bridge was played in the dining and drawing-rooms, which were decorated wilh sweet peas, roses and hydrangeas, and afternoon tea was served in the hall. Mrs. Fussell and Mrs. Charles Richardson and Airs. Clayton were the winners of the competitions.
