The ballot for positions on several taxi stands which was to have been held by the Wellington City Council Traffic Department yesterday has been fiostponed, a petition asking that no more vehicles be allowed to stand on the Waring Taylor Street stand having been received by the council from •several property owners in the street. It is understood that the objection is to the hampering of the manoeuvring of vehicles in and out of cart docks by a taxi rank in the centre of the road. Thus there arises in an unusual form the common Conflict between the use of the streets for movement from place to place and access to property and for other purposes, including the carrying on of businesses and the parking of cars. The Wanganui Returned Soldiers’ Association ban decided to hold a church parade ou Armistice Day, November 11, which falls on Sunday this year. The association also has in view a special Christmas treat for children of unemployed members.
