HOMING PIGEONS

Wellington Club’s Races The 'Wellington Homing' ‘ Pigeon Society held a flock race confined to yearling pigeons only from Frankton ’Junction; 247 miles by airline. The pigeons, were liberated in fine weather,' but: <.t the home end conditions were.mpst unfavourable, owing to a strong wind and rpin; The following were the first eight places: 1, B. Clement’s b. c. c. 213,, shrs„ 33.4.9; 2, J. Perrett’s b. c. h. 98,, fibre. 33.4.5; 3, C. Webster and Son’s b. c. h. 377, shrs. 33.10.4: 4. N. Barnett’s b. c. p. h. 47, fibre. 33.50.6: 5, C. Egginton’s b. b. c. 107, shrs. 34.27.2; 6, A. Clement’s blk. c. 230, shrs. 34,47.3; 7, Murphy and Sherwood’s b. b. c. 308, fibre. 34.50 ; 8, N. Boyd and Sou’s b. e. c. 334, fihrs,, 35.21.9. A flock race was also flown from Ashburton, 235 miles airline. The pigeons bad a very hard fight against a strong northerly wind and rain. This week’s races are from Henderson, 314 miles, and Huntly, for.the New Zealand Federation yearling race, .which is competed for by several clubs throughout the Dominion; also an interval race of 10 minutes 'between each bird's liberation from Christchurch, 188 miles airline.
