Martinborough Cattle Fair Dominion Special Service. ■ Martinborough, November 2. At Mnrtinboroiigh yesterday, Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd-., offered a lull yarding of cattle to a fair attendance of buyers. Bidding at the start was rather poor, several of the first pens offered being passed in. although they were sold later. On the whole, prices were practically on a par with those realised at the late Masterton cattle fair. Prices were: Fat cows, to £5; forward-conditioned P.A. heifers, to £4; threc-year Hereford steers, to £5/5/-; two-year Hereford steers, to £4/10/-; yearling P.A. steers, £3/6/-, £3/10/- to £3/14/-; yearling P.A. steprs, to £2/5/-, Mangawhata Clearing Sale At Mangawhata last Tuesday Dalgoty and Co., Ltd., held a very satisfactory clearing sale on account Mr. Robert Brown, when his two complete herds of quality Jersey and Friesian cows in profit were disposed of. Bidding from the outset was spirited, and best cows sold in advance of expectations, making up to £O/10/-; 156 sound cows averaged £5/10/-. the remainder of the offering comprising three-quarter cows, bulls, and yearlings. Prices’were Best sorts, £7 to £O/10/-; good, £5 to £7: medium. £4 to £5; three-quarter cows, £l/10/- to £3/10/-; yearling heifers, £2 11/-; Friesian bulls, £3/5/-; Jersey bulls. £4/5/- to £4/10/-: seven-year mare, £39/10/-; aged mare, £46; aged mure, £l6. Implements and sundries sold freely at satisfactory rates. PINE TREES GROW WELL Wanganui, November 2. The two-year-old pine trees given by the Waitotara County Council and planted by the unemployed boys at the youths’ afforestation camp on the and dunes at Kaitoke, Wnnganui, are now well over 4ft. high, although they have been plant•ed only n year.
