Radio For Hospital

Waipukurau, November 1. As a result of the effort .of* publicspirited residents, appreciative of the excellence of the hospital service, the AVaipukurau Hospital is to be equipped with radio at an early date. For some time past a committee working under the direction of the Mayor, Mr. J. W. N. Mackie, has been collecting funds for an appeal to residents of the Hospital Board’s district. After the first appeal the committee felt justified in going ahead with the work as well over £2OO had been subscribed. The committee are to make a further appeal for headphones, four which have already been donated.

Benefit for Homes. ; It is anticipated that the Hawke s Bay children’s homes will benefit to the extent of about £5O by a very successful fancy dress ball held this week.

Sports Club Jubilee. The' AVaipawa. Sports Club opened its season for its jubilee year on Saturday, when Air. F. Holt, president of the club, bowled the first ball of the season down the rinks in the beautiful grounds of the club at AVaipawa. Air. Holt referred to the fact that the club would tins year celebrate its jubilee, and appropriately enough the North Island championship tennis tourney would bo held on the courts, commencing on January 15.,
