BOROUGH ELECTIONS

Eve of Polling in Britain (British Official Wireless.) (Received November 1, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, October 31. Polling takes place to-morrow in municipal council elections throughout the country and in London 28 borough councils will be reconstituted. The election campaign has been proceeding for several weeks and 2700 candidates have been nominated. Of these 158 have been returned unopposed and the remainder are contesting 1167 seats. Although many of the issues are purely local, candidates are in the main divided Into two parties, 1271 being Municipal Reformers and 1157 Labour supporters. Ninety-four are standing as Independents and there are 62 Communists. The candidates include 460 women.
