COMMUNITY DRAMA

Wellington Area Festival

Four one-act plays were produced at the opening session in tlie Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening of the third annual festival of community drama in the Wellington area of the British Drama League. The last of them, "Wisdom,” presented by the Marsden Players, was described by the judge, Mr. Leo du Chateau, as “one of the best little plays and best-acted plays I have seen for a long time. The action was smooth and the team-work was excellent.”

Of “The legend,” presented by the W.E.A. Drama Circle, Mr. du Chateau said he was sorry to have to say more harsh things than good. He thought that all the effects were artificial. Yet it had been better received by the audience than the two plays which preceded it, and he congratulated the players on an excellent performance. The Wellington East Old Girls’ Dramatic Society in “Symphony in Illusion’’ had made, he said, a very' courageous attempt at a difficult and powerful play. He considered the Johnsonville Players, who presented “Neighbourly Love,” were very promising, and showed hope for much better things.

Awards will hot be announced until the conclusion of the fourth session on Monday night Following are the plays with their casts as presented last night:— “Neighbourly Love,” by F. A.
