MR. GEDDES EXPLAINS
Remarks About Refereeing Sydney, September 15. The New South Wales Rugby Union has received a letter from Jlr. A. J. Geddes, manager of the New Zealand Rugby team which recently visited Australia, explaining his reported attack on Australian referees. Mr. Geddes says; “Upon arrival at ■Wellington we were rushed by reporters. I (old them of the difficulties we had in the early games in regard to various interpretations which were puzzling to us in connection with the offside and front-row rule, more particularly in the first Test, but I wanted them strictly to understand that we were not making any eomp'alnt or excuses for our defeat, as we were well and truly beaten by a better side.” Mr. Geddes concludes: “I sincerely (rust that 1 have cleared the air. ami that the good opinion the people of Australia had of the team will still be retained.”
