Perth-to-Sydney Flight
SPEED OF 272 M.P.H. HELD FOR U MINUTES By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received September 11, 9.50 p.m.) Sydney, September 11. Completing a record-breaking flight from Perth, begun at dawn, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, in the Lady Southern Cross, landed at Mascot aerodrome at 4.17 p.m. His time between Perth and Adelaide was about six hours, and his average speed 233 miles an hour, while at one stage, for 44 minutes, he maintained a speed of 272 miles an hour. He had a following wind most of the way and rarely flew below 9000 feet. His actual Hying time between Perth aud Sydney, 2175 miles, was 9 hours 32 minutes. He refuelled at Adelaide, not Forrest, as anticipated. During the week-end Sir Charles broke the existing Melbourne-Perth record, taking 10 hours 21i minutes for the flight. He experienced head winds most o£ the way. LONDON TO AUSTRALIA Time-Table Announced "NEW WEEKLY SERVICE (Received September 11,10.20 p.m.) Sydney, September 11. The time-table of the air mall service from London to Australia has been announced. The service, which will be a weekly one, will begin from London on December 8, lirriving at Brisbane bn December 20. The first outward mail leaves Brisbane on December 10, and reaches London on December 24. Postal authorities here have made arrangements for the Issue of a new 1/6 stamp in connection with the inauguration service.
