North Pole Offered to Taft

Commander Peary, who has arrived at Labrador with his expedition oh his'return from the Arctic regions, telegraphed to President Taft as follows: “I have the honour to place the North Pole at your disposal.” President Taft sent the following reply: “Thanks for your generous and interesting offer. Do not know exactly what to do with it I congratulate you sincerely.”

Sir Joseph AVard assures me (writes the London correspondent of the Christchurch “Evening News”) there is not the slightest foundation for the statement that he will try to float a loan on behalf of the Dominion while lie is in London. The Dominion has already, he states, secured all the money it requires, and there is no necessity for raising money there.

The London “Daily Chronicle” reports that the State of Arkansas is suing 65 companies included in the so-called Insurance Trust, alleging that it is an illegal combination.
