BOWLING CONTROL

Preparation For Season’s Tournaments ,

DRAW FOR COMPETITIONS

Arrangements for the coming season were made by the executive of the Wellington Bowling Centre last night. Mr. W. Gilbert presided. A recommendation from a general meeting of club secretaries that interclub games as at present constituted be conducted as a competition with a percentage system of scoring, was disapproved. Members pointed out that such a competition would involve a great deal more work and make the arranging of matches a difficult problem. A request that the secretaries. and treasurers of the clubs be permitted to hold a one-day tournament in place of the present secretaries and treasurers’ match was agreed to, December 6 being the date fixed. It was decided that if a visit was proposed to the Manawatu Centre this season the fixture should take place before the New Year. Holiday Tournaments. Christmas and New. Year pairs tournaments this season are to be played under the same conditions as on the last occasion. Conditions for the Easter tournament were altered, it being resolved to play the rink competition on the Friday and Saturday, with post-section play on Monday. A one-day pairs tournament is also to be played on the Monday. Last year, section play occupied three days, postsection play taking place on the Tuesday. Entrance Fees Reduced. It was agreed to reduce the entrance fee from 10/- to 7/6 for the Christmas tournament, .this including afternoon tea. The fee for the New Year pairs tournament was fixed at 6/-, the same as last year, also including afternoon tea. The chairman said the centre relied on tournament players for the bulk of its revenue. He was of opinion that this was wrong. The levy should be suitably increased at the beginning of the season. Th? entrance fee and conditions for the Easter tournament were left in abeyance until after the New Year tournament. An application by the Hutt Valley Bowling Club to hold its usual New Year tournament on January 1 and 2 was granted. ... . The- entrance fee for championship matches was fixpd at 5/- a player, the same as last year. It was reported that a proposal to conduct a competition for country clubs had been warmly received. It was left to the clubs to drrange conditions governing the competition, these to be submitted to a sub-committee of the centre. Dates Approved.
