LOWER HUTT W.D.F.U. ] Monthly Meeting Held The President, Airs. McDiarmid, presided over a very large attendance of members and friends at the monthly meeting‘of the Hutt branch, of the AVomen's Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. It was decided that the roll call- for the next meeting should be “Sandwich Fillings,” and it was also decided to hold a competition monthly for a points privx; at the end of the year. Next month’s competition is to be for the best .article made from a sugarbag, and a demonstration of rug-mak-ing from sugarbags is also to be given. The speaker for the afternoon was Mr. T. AVI Attwood, who invited questions on all aspects of home gardening. Members and visitors availed themselves freely of the invitation, and a very instructive and interesting hour followed. A. hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Attwood was carried by acclamation. After the completion of business matters, Mrs. Douglas played a pianoforte solo. A dainty afternoon tea was served. LOWER HUTT LIBRARY Progressing Steadily Steady progress is being made by the Lower Hutt Municipal Library, according to a report of the librarian. During Alay, a substantial increase was shown in the number of books taken out and the total number of subscribers. Alemorial Hut, which is to be the home of the Hutt A'alley Y.M.C.A., has now been completed and will be officially opened shortly. The builder, Mr. 11. C. Nicholls, has done fine work. The gymnasium floor, particularly, has received his careful attention. He has also entered into the spirit of the venture, and many cupboards and other accessories, not called for in the specifications, have been provided. 'The secretary of the Hutt Valley Y.AI.C.A., Air. A. C. Edwards, reports that the number of those enrolled sicreases each week. Fifty-six unemployed boys have registered and are reporting daily. “Big Brothers” have been enlisted for nine boys. HIBERNIAN SOCIETY Dance at Lower Hutt The King George Dance Hall, Lower Hutt, presented a very gay scene on AA’ednesday evening when the Lower Hutt Hibernian Society held its annual dance. The floor was thronged with dancers, and the hall was effectively decorated with palms and ferns. During the evening Miss Phyllis Foster aud Air. J. AVilkinson gave an exhibition of dancing, the former wearing a graceful frock of white marocain. Aliss P. Connolly played extras, and Air. Tucker acted as AI.C. Andrews, Mayoress of Lower Hutt, on Tuesday afternoon, a branch of the AVomen’s Auxiliary of the Returned Soldiers’ Club was formed. A committee of 28 members was appointed, with Airs, Andrews as president, Airs. Butcher and Mi’s. O. Ashton, . vice-presidents, and. Mrs. E. B. Harland, secretary. The Tin Hat Club intends glving-a concert at Lower Hutt in aid of the Returned Soldiers’ Club on June 27, and on that occasion the Women’s Auxiliary will provide supper for tlie performers. It is hoped to hold dances in the hall in aid of the Returned Soldiers’ Club, and the AVomen’s Auxiliary will have charge of the supper arrangements, and act as hostesses. A delicious afternoon tea was provided by the. hostess.
