Exhibition Proposed WANGANUI DISTRICT NEWS Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, May 9. Efforts made by tbe Alexander Museum Boqrd of Trustees to arrange an exhibition of model ships, are likely to bear fruit. Dr, E. J. Tapham, who has a set of model galleons of the days of the .Spanish Main, and Mr. W. L. Fowler, who. is an expert iu the art of Maori canoe carving, have been asked to take the matter in hand. Tbe museum has a model of the famous ship ’ Calliope," which made history by leaving Apia harbour in the teeth of a tornado when all other ships affected were wrecked. It is believed that quite an interesting and instructive exhibition can be arranged, Empire Art Collection. An Empire art exhibition is to be opened in Wanganui next September, and will continue for a period of three weeks. It is intended to invite the GovernorGeneral (Lord Bledisloo) to open it. At a meeting of the Alexander 1 Museum Board of Trustees yesterday, the chairman, Mr. Hope Gibbons, stated that tbe exhibition would be a fine thing for the city. The collection would be exhibited also nt Christchurch, Auckland, and Dunedin, after which it wou.ld.be taken to Australia, . • ■ T' - <

City Taxi Stands. Henceforth the taxi stave! which has been located in Ridgway Street for a number of years, will join the, rank in Maria Place, which provides accommodation for nine Vehicles. A decision to this effect was confirmed by the City Council last night,. The matter gave rise to discussion, three members of the council. Crs. J. J. Scott, J. Robertson, and G. H- Trott, holding that tbe Ridgway Street stand should be retained. Nine votes, however, were recorded in favour of ■ Maria Place as the most suitable locality, and in support of the contention that one stand would more conveniently suit the public than two.

Better Gate Takings. . ' An indication of greater public intenest in Rugby this season was revealed in a report to the management committee of the Metropolitan Union Inst night, to tbe effect that tbe gate takings last Saturday were the best for two years. Three Saturdays of the current season have gone by. and over that period the takings are approximately £4O better than they were last year.

The Masterton A and P. Association at its monthly meeting this afternoon passed a vote of condolence with tbe relatives of the late Mr. 11. C. L. Robinson.

There were 8,000.000 persons in Great Britain and Northern Ireland whose incomes were within the taxable limits in the year 1931-32: but more than' one-half of them escaped taxation through various allowances.
