Overseas League The reception held last evening in the Balm Lounge of the Hotel St. George by the executive committee of tiie Overseas League whs a brilliant success The rooms were beautifully decorated with huge bowls of red and bronze chrysanthemums, ‘and the comfort of big chairs and chesterfields, soft carpets, and an even beat were a delightful contrast to the bitter cold outside. The guests were received by Mrs. W. S. Pearce and Mrs.. Charles Nicols, who were hostesses for the evening, and who liad arranged an excellent programme of music interspersed with talks of other countries by Miss Mary Butler and Mr. E, Hurley. The guests were welcomed by Mr. Marcus Marks in a short speech, and those who contributed to the programme were:— Madame de Mauny (piano). Mr. Leon de Mauny (violin), and Mr. Claude Tanner (’cello), Trio (Schubert) ; Mrs. Ivon Wilson, piano solos; Miss Monica Malfroy. songs; Mrs. W. S. Pearce and Miss Malfroy, duets. Mrs. J. D. Harper gave a delightful informal farewell for Mrs. J. 15. MaeEwan, in the T. and G. Building, yesterday, when her friends had a last opportunity of saying an revolt' before she left by the Limited last evening to join tiie Rangitata in Auckland, en route for London.

The big, comfortably-furnished lounge was decorated witli squat bowls of hydrangeas in deep pinks and natives, dahlias, chrysanthemums, and trails of autumn leaves, whose lovely burnished shades were in striking contrast to the bright green cushions and curtains. The diningroom looked most attractive with vases of pom-pom dahlias and chrysanthemums on tiie tallies. All the beautiful flowers had come from the gardens of Mrs. Macarthy Reid, Mrs. Alex. Crawford, and Mrs. S. M. Hobbs. Mrs. Harper received her guests wearing a dress of heavy black .marocaln, with a white georgette vesteu, and a black felt hat trimmed with white. Mrs. Mac Ewan’s black silk crepe dress had touches of white, and she wore a black hat with a white band and stonemarten furs. Among those present were:—Mrs. G. W. Forbes, Airs. J. G.
