Italian Wins Narrowly Tripoli, May 6. An Italian, Achille Varzi, driving an Alfa Romeo, won the Tripoli Grand Prix for the second successive year, after a terrific struggle, by one-fifth of a second. Guy Moll, a Frenchman, was second, and Louis Chiron, of Monaco. third. They also drove Alfa Romeos. The race was run over forty laps, eqiial to 350 miles, over a specially prepared triangular desert track. Varzi’s average was approximately 116 miles an hour, the fastest ever recorded for a road circuit. In a gigantic sweepstake, an Italian, who drew Varzi. received £112,000. The second prize. £50.000, and the third, £25000. also went to Italians.
