Armenian Massacres (From "The Dominion, ’* -May G» 1&09.) Further massacres of Armenians have occurred in Adana, Asia Minor. Four thousand soldiers are looting,. shooting, and burning. Instead of pouring water on fires, they saturate them and feed them with kerosene. Both the French schools and the Joseph ip e Convent, have been destroyed. Fears are entertained regarding the American missions at Nadji.n and Tarsus. It is estimated that '(>soo have been killed in Adana, and that 39,000 have been killed- in the entire provinces, while 35.000 arc homeless and penniless. Panic in a mild form reigned among the Wellington street-betting fraternity yesterday, when Detectives Cassells and Broberg swept down on the fold. The detectives had not come to riiakj a raid, but had simply called to intimate that they .had been on the alert of late, and had gained sufficient evidence to warrant them in serving summonses on certain persons, charging them to appear at the S.M. Court in a few days and answer allegations of street-betting.
