Rankin, Invercargill. Miss Ranehilde Mee. of Wellington, left Auckland by the Monterey on Saturday for Suva, where she will spend the winter. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn has arrived in Christchurch from Well-ugton, and is 'staying with her' mother, Mrs. W. Gunn. Miss Alison Pearce, Hobson Street, and her guest, Miss Joyce Herdman, Auckland, are going to Wanganui for the races. Mrs. Syme, Braemar, Scotland, who leaves for England by the Rangitata, and her daughter, Mrs. Vesey Robmson, spent the week-end with Mrs. Shirtcllffe, Tinakori Road. Mrs. A. N. Slater, Island Bay, and Mrs. Eric Luke, Oriental Terrace, who have been the guests of Mrs. Charles Bull, Gisborne, have returned to Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Tylee, who came to Wellington for the opening of the Academy. where Miss Tylee exhibited several pictures, will return home to Pahiatua to-day. Mrs. J. Wickenden and Miss Elaine Wiekenden, Christchurch, arrived in Wellington during the week-end and, will spend some days in vtlie North Island before leaving for England by the Rotorua on May 19. At a meeting of the New Zealand Red Cross Society on Friday, the chairman, Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., referred to the bereavement wkhich had recently befallen Airs. J. Abel in the loss of her mother and Airs. Alpe in the loss of her husband, Mr. Harry Alpe, the veteran walker, who in his lifetime had done so much in raising funds for charitable purposes, including 'the society. A motion of condolence was carried and the secretary instructed to convey the sympathy of the meeting with the bereaved.
