TENDERS FOR A HARBOUR
In an advertisement in this issue, tenders are called for the construction of a hai-bour for the city of Mackay, on the coast of Queensland. The growing importance of Mackay, called the “sugaropolis of Queensland,' and its wonderfully resourceful district, allow no room for doubt, in view oi shipping and trade figures. When the harbour has been built, overseas and interstate vessels will avail themselves of the opportunity of making Mackay a. port of call —and thus assist to place it on the map for commercial and tourist trade. The harbour will enclose an area of 140 acres,’protected by northern and southern brenkwatei’s. amt the entrance will he 600 feet in width. And at high water spring tides, the depth oj water at the berthage will be about 54 fee!: and in the swinging basin 45 feet.
