A FISHERMAN’S SCALES
Miss Frances Perkins is the Minister for Labour in the Roosevelt Administration. On a recent occasion, when addressing a large audience, she told a story of the birth of a baby in the Cleveland family, when that name ruled White House. It was customary then, as now, to weigh the newly-born infant, but no scales could be found. Now nearly every president of the United States lias been an enthusiastic fisherman, and Cleveland was one of them, so it was suggested to the nurse that she should approach the President for a loan of his scales. “Sure I have scales, you’ll find them in that cupboard over there,” said the President. The nurse secured the scales and dulyweighed the baby. It weighed 27jlb. 1
