FASCINATING AGE

Opinion of Dress Designer At what age is a woman most fascinating? This debatable question has been argued pro and con do.wn through the years, and the answer to-day is far different to that of former years, in the opinion of Adrian, famous M-G-M fashion creator. Adrian knows the intimate personalities, the preferences of stars of such widely-varying years as Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo. Norma Shearer, and beloved Marie Dressier through his years of designing their every costume for the screen. And Adrian feels that a woman’s most fascinating and interesting age begins at thirty. "In this day and age, the woman of thirty or forty is not limited In her choice of the sort of thing she can wear,” declares Adrian in explaining his belief. “Her clothes are not external declarations of her age, as they used to be.” The “sartorial finer” that formerly pointed to the woman of twenty or thirty, and told her exactly the type of clothes she must wear for each age, is fortunately a thing of the past, and Adrian believes that, the old “chimneycorner” idea that the woman of fifty should look like a little old lady is equally passe. "To-day. after a woman is thirty, she has reached almost an age of permanence as far as the type of clothes she can wear is concerned,” says Adrian from his vast experience in designing for types of every age. “If she is intelligent she can play very cleverly with this age, aided by correct costuming. “The woman of between thirty and forty has had enough experience to shun the obvious approach to life, and should be taking full advantage of her own development. If she has gained anything in experience from these years she should be reaping the harvest in charm, personality and matured beauty.

“So' I feel that a woman’s most fascinating and most interesting age begins at thirty."
