COMPANY FORMED
Wellington Sea Rangers The inauguration of ■ the first Wellington company of Sea Rangers, a, branch of the Girl Guides, was held by courtesy of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company on board the s.s. Tainui on Saturday evening. This is only the second company of Sea Rangers in New Zealand, the other company being in Picton. The enrolling ceremony took place in the ship’s lounge, Captain Macintosh and some of the ship’s officers attending. Miss Walker, district commissioner of North ' Wellington, enrolled Miss Helen Morton as a Sea Ranger, and she, in the capacity of district commissioner for South Wellington enrolled each girl as a member of the’ Ist Wellington Sea Ranger Company. It is the custom for Sea Ranger companies to fake the name of a ship, and consequently “Sea Ranger Ship Tainui” was decided upon. Souvenir cards of the occasion, which had been printed on the ship, were given to each ranger, and they were shown over the ship. Captain Macintosh spoke most interestingly of the history of the Tainui, and a delicious supper, followed by the Guide song, “Taps,” concluded a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
