TO-NIGHT’S WRESTLING

All indications arc that the 1934 wrestling season will be launched very successfully at the Town Hall this evening, when two of the highest class wrestlers yet to be seen in New Zealand will be matched. Dr. Freddy Meyer is undoubtedly :he world’s leading Jewish wrestler, who has beaten the nuggety Abe Coleman (who drew large crowds when lie was here two years ago), and who has wrestled draws with such mighty men as Browning. Sonnenburg. and de Glane. As an amateur he represented the U.S.A. nt the Olympic Games at Antwerp, and since he turned professional in 1928 he has met nearly all the men whose names are bywords among wrestling enthusiasts. He is reputed to be not the most gentle of men when in the ring. His opponent. Rene Michot, is champion of France, and is rated second only to Henri de Glane. ex-world’s champion. For six years Michot was amateur champion of his country, and last year, as a -professional lie was unbeaten by nny of a strong touring team from America. English papers just to hand contain glowing reports of his performances in London. He is admitted by authorities to be in the first, flight, of wrestlers. The big match to-night will be preceded by amateur bouts, commencing at 8 o’clock.
