Electricity Charges

Sir. —In reply to the letter in this morning’s “Dominion” under the beading “Electricity Profits.” the executive of the Wellington Retail Traders’ Association will no doubt be interested to know that the Labour councillors definitely opposed the filching of £lO,OOO from the profits of the electricity department in order to do works which should really have been done out of the rates, thereby giving the ratepayers a further £lO.OOO, making in all £20,000. Labour also contended that a reduction in the light and power charges would /benefit the community at large more than the 2 per cent, sop that was thrown to the ratepayers.— I am. etc., H. HENING. Wellington, May 5.
