ROBBERY AT SHOW
Money Taken From the Office Safe
UNSOLVED MYSTERY Complete mystery surrounds I lie disappearance of £4O from the sale in the office of the Wellington Show Association at lhe Easter Sluiw at about 10.30 o'clock yesterday morning. The money was all in silver coin anil, it is understood, had been brought from the bank, which opened at 10 o’clock. It was then placed in the safe, which was closed but not locked. The theft, which must have taken place soon after the money had been put in the safe, did not remain undiscovered for long, as a member of the staff had occasion to go to the safe shortly after 10.30 a.m., and immediately noticed the absence of the money. Few people were about the show at that time and it is presumed that the thief gained access to the safe during the temporary absence of the office staff. Mr. G. Mitchell, secretary of the Show Association, refused to discuss the matter further than to admit that a large sum had been taken. Police investigations are in progress.
