A message from Toowoomba, Queensland states that 14 business premises in the main street of Gatton were destroyed by fire early this morning. The blaze raged for hours owing to the fact that, no w’ater was available.. The buildings destroyed comprised several shops witli dwellings attached, also the branch of the Bank of New South Wales. RACING STABLE AFIRE Prominent Horses Removed to Safety THREE YEARLINGS BURNT (Received April 6. 5.30 p.m.) Sydney, April 6. Three thoroughbred yearlings sold at yesterday’s bloodstock sales perished when fire destroyed the wooden stables and sale ring of Messrs. 11. Chisholm and Co. at Randwick this morning. The yearlings were a brown filly by Grosvenor, which brought 70 guineas: a black colt by Rosewing. 140 a chestnut gelding by Diacquenod. 65 guineas. A house alongside, occupied by Mr. T. Sweeney, was gutted. Another part of Chisholm’s stables occupied by Mr. Fred Williams's horses, including Chatham, was undamaged. Chatham was quartered in a box on tlie east side of tlie stables., but was in jio immediate danger, owing to tlie wind being in the opposite direction. Golden Wings was also in Mi'. M’illiams’s stable. Mr. George Price’s stables, in tlie same block, were also untouched. 'I hoy contained Kuvcra, Sir John. M liittingham. Ranchero. Blixten, Gladswood and several others which took part in tlie autumn meeting. Although they wore in no immediate danger nil the horses were removed to a safer locality. Mr. H. Chisholm lost polo equipment. harness and other gear valued at £2OO, The fire is believed to have started through a eignr butt igniting some coir mating in the arena. Tlie sale ring, which was completely destroyed, was insured for £4900.
