TWO DRAFTS FOR TRENTHAM

In a statement issued yesterday the Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, said that the men of the first batch of new enlistments to the Royal New Zealand Air Force, under the Government’s recently-announced intention to provide increased air defence, were requested to report to the Air Force base, Hobsonville, on Thursday, in order to commence training in preparation for the arrival of service aircraft, due approximately about the middle of the year.

“These men,” the Minister stated, “represent the first selection from a large list of upplications received in answer to the advertisements wnieh appeared throughout the Dominion in November last. Two other drafts will be selected during the year from the waiting list, and these will'receive their initial disciplinary training at Trentham military camp.” It was explaned that the first flight of bomber aircraft was to be stationed at Hobsonville. and the second at Wigram Aerodrome, Christchurch. The personnel being enlisted this year were to man those two Hights and to allow for a proportional increase in the workshop personnel at both stations.
