WELLINGTON CRICKET
Easter Matches Arranged Permission for several teams to tour and play matches during Easter was granted at last evening’s of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association. The chairman, Mr. P. B. Broad, presided, and there were present: Messrs. A. Varney, secretary; AV. J. R. Christopherson, treasurer; A. M. Holllngs, L. J. Brabiu, E. C. Wiren, A. AV. Duncan, R. Steele, W. P. Walker, and J. H. Phillips. The Victoria University College Club was granted permission to send a third grade team to Wanganui and Marton to play two friendly games at. Easter. Kilbirnie is travelling to Manawatu and the Stop Out Club to Feilding to play friendly fixtures arranged by the Feilding club. The requisite permission was granted in these cases also. Similar action was taken with an application by the Wellington Technical College Club’s application to play at Wanganui on March 22 and 23. The Victoria University College Club wrote stating that as this season is somewhat shorter than last, and as a number of first round games have not yet been played, there was a feeling among members of the lower teams that the season was being brought to a premature close. The letter further stated that the club's committee considered that an extra levy for the final round of the senior matches would be a distinct hardship, and as the number of games this season would not exceed last season’s total it was felt that tliis complaint was warranted. It was decided to reply that fees were fixed on a basis of 18 playing Saturdays and that it would, be necessary to charge for extra games. Miss C. R, Robertson, secretary of the Wellington Women’s Cricket Association, wrote thanking the association for the preparation of the pitch at Kelburn Park and applying for assistance in securing Uie Basin Reserve for a match on March 24. The management committee decided that vs it was itself forgoing three weeks’ use of the Basin Reserve to enable it to be put. in order and the Mercantile League had had its application refused for a similar reason, the ‘Wellington association regretted it could not assist the women’s association.
The Canterbury Cricket Association expressed thanks; to Wellington for allowing its representative team to playin Christchurch during its recent southern tour, and enclosed a cheque for £25. The opinion was expressed that, the match would prove beneficial to the cricket of the two provinces.
