WELLINGTON WOOL

Yesterday’s Realisations BROKERS’ REPORTS (Continued from Page 11.) LEVIN AND co., LTD. Lovin and Co., Ltd., report:—The total offering was 25,000 bales, our catalogue representing 6 (SO bales. . The wools were from Wairarapa, Manawatu. Nelson, and Marlborough districts. The crossbreds were mauily top-making lots. Super crossbreds were scarce. Our binned wools, under the Kaiwarra brand, of which some 2300 bales were catalogued, made up, honever, for the absence of super lots in the main clips The halfbreds offered were only nvera-e grade, and the same may be said of the small quantity of merino. Since the sale here on I‘ebruary 10. markets generally have cased. It was anticipated that prices to-day would icvert to the February level, but this was not so. The quality and condition of much of the offering was below the 1 ebruary standard, and. in the ordinary course, prices would have depreciated about one halfpenny on this account. Allowing for this fin* crossbreds and half’breds were nearly on a par with February. but crossbreds tinder 46’s showed « <’’stinet full, and the coarser the quality the greater the drop. . Bidding was strong and spirited. Competition for crossbreds came largely from Bradford and France and Germany. Japan was taking suitable lots. It or halfbred there was general all-round demand. . , , , r We quote, as against I‘ebruary l.j S!1 1 C: —Halfbreds. par to Id. down : crossbreds. 48/50's, Id. to Id. down: 44/46 s, id. to Id. down; 36/44 s. WAIRARAPA FARMERS’ CO OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION.

The Wairarapa,Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., report: —.At the fourth wool sale of the season held to-day, a catalogue of 25,000 bales was oflered to a full bench of buyers. Bidding throughout the sale was for (he most part keen aiid well distributed among the different consuming interests, but at times lacked animation and was inclined to drag. Compared with the February sale, finer sorts were generally up to that sale’s level, but were at times somewhat weaker. Taken right through, prices Were erratic, in instances extra fine crossbreds equalling—and in some eases exceeding—last sale’s rate’s, but for the most part were in buyers’ favour. Qualities below 48’s may be quoted as from 4d. to Jd. lower; bellies, pieces, necks, and crutchings were considerably weaker. Our catalogue consisted for the most part of better-conditioned lines than ure usually offered at this stage of the season. A special feature was the large proportion of wool binned under our “Quay” brand, over two-thirds of our offering consisting of reclassed and binned lines, indicating the increased confidence of growers in this method of disposing of their wool clips. The following are some of our principal realisations: — .Southdown: Quay. 18-}d., IGJd.; Wiwaka, 224<1.; LF, 18d. Hal'fbred: Quay, 184 d., 174 d. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Co.. Ltd., report that catalogues totalling 25.00(1 bales were submitted by (he wool-broking companies, our offering comprising 3101 bales. The bulk of our offering was medium crossbred, with a few very choice lots of fine quality from the Feilding district and some exceptionally good lines of Southdown and lambs’ wool. All fine wool sold well up to Wellington last sale’s values. but low and medium crossbred were easier by 4d. to one penny; lambs’ wool and oddments from one penny to one penny halfpenny lower than in February. ' Competition for all lots showing style and quality was very animated and realised satisfactory prices, but generally speaking the sale may be described as disappointing to growers. We sold 83 per cent, of our offering at auction, and expect to make further sales when owners have been advised of the true state of the crossbred market. Our principal realisations were as follow : — Hoggets: Kamano, 13.3 d.; Co-op..
