Farewell to Mr. A. D. Kerr V' ' . On Saturday evening, at the Empire Hotel, the staff of 1 Messrs. Briscoe, E. W. Mills, and Co., Ltd., tendered a farewell dinner to Mr. A. D. Kerr, who lias relinquished the managership of the firm. Mr. J. Dagg, who ras been a member of tiie firm for 48 years, in proposing the toast of tiie guest, traced Mr. Kerr’s career from the position' of junior to manager during a period of some 32 years with E. W. Mills and Co., Ltd., and after the amalgamation, with Briscoe and Co., Ltd. Incidents of the past were recalled by some of the older members of the staff, all of whom referred to Mr. Kerr’s wise counsel and untiring efforts on behalf of the employees. Mr. Kerr, who was received with musical honours! in a happy reply emphasised the friendly relations existing between all employees, and expressed appreciation of the assistance he had received. Mr. L. Campbell, of Messrs. J. Lysaghts, Ltd., proposed the toast of Briscoe. E. W. Mills and Co., Ltd., and Mr. V. McP. Jones, who lias taken over the position vacated by Mr. Kerr, ably responded. Messrs. C. V. Kerr and J. Mann contributed items. Mr. Kerr, who is president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed South Island manager of Messrs. J. Burns and Co., Ltd.-' He will leave for Christchurch on Wednesday next.
