Association’s Activities An increase in membership to nearly 100 was reported at the annual meeting of the Melrose Ratepayers and Electors’ Association, held recently, Mr. R. G. Mexted presiding. The annual report stated that much good work had been accomplished during the year, including many local improvements. It was decided to arrange a deputation to the Tramways Committee of the City Council to urge the need of a tramway service for the district, the present bus service being regarded as totally inadequate. A petition lias been signed by some 610 residents appealing for more efficient cominuuieation to and from the city. In 1920 a loan proposal of £12,900 was approved.

Arrangements have also been made for a deputation to wait, on the Education Department with reference to the erection of a school in the district. It is estimated that 140 children would attend the school.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. R. G. Mexted; vice-president, Mr. T. F. Erns; lion, secretary, Mr. A. Houston; bon. treasurer, Mr. F. Zantuek: executive, Messrs. G. Fowler, C. Martin, S. Cross, Mesdames Simpson and Zantuek; trustees, Messrs. W. Dobson, F. Boyd, and R. Mexted; hon. solicitor, Mr. E. 11. Brooker; auditor, Mr. G. Bradley.
