Women Teachers Elect New Officers MISS SHELTON" PRESIDENT Dominion Special Service. Masterton, March 17. The following officers were elected at the auuual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Women Teachers’ Association : President, Miss Shelton; vice-presi-dents, Misses Sutherland and McGrath; secretary, Mrs. Engstrom; assistant secretary, Miss Caewell; treasurer, Miss Hogg; committee, Mrs. Fouhy, Misses Catherwood, Tankersley. Callender, Cunningham, Stewart, Cocker. Hukanui Resident’s Death. The death is reported from Hukanui of Mrs. W. Freeth, who was aged 69 years. She was a native of Nelson. Deceased, who was twipe married, leaves a husband and family, the latter comprising Messrs. Wm. and Curtis Coster (Hukanui), Mesdames V. Robinson and C. Best (Spring Creek. Blenheim), Mrs. W. Taylor (Waipawa), and Mrs. W. Keast (Mangatainoka). New Appointment,. Mr. Peter Dorrain, Greytown, has been notified of his appointment to the Reefton Methodist Church, and will leave early in April to take up his new duties. Leaving on Transfer. Mr. A. Carrig. of the Masterton Post Office staff, will leave Masterton on Monday for Upper Hutt on transfer. During his stay in Masterton Mr. Carrig has been a prominent member of the Red Star Football Club and the St. Patrick’s Tennis Club. Tc Ore Orc Hockey Club. The election of officers at the annual meeting of the Te Ore Ore Ladies’ Hockey Club resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. W. McGovern ; president, Mr. R. Morris ; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Morris, D. Surge Tower Inspected. An inspection of the surge tower at Kourarau electric power station has been made by the engineer to the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, Mr. H. B. Keenan, who was accompanied by the secre-tary-manager, Mr. George Brown, and the chairman of the board. Mr. A. Campbell Pearce. As on previous occasions, the object of the inspection was to discover how the repairs to the tower, caused by the recent earthquake, would stand under ordinary working pressure. The tower stood up to the test very satisfactorily, and although there are a few leaks visible, these will probably disappear in time, and there is no cause for alarm of any description. MAN INJURED Struck by Motor-cycle Carterton, March 18. Facial injuries and shock were received by Frederick -Fuukell. labourer, aged 42. residing at. Park Road, Carterton, when he was knocked down by a motorcycle. He was wheeling a bicycle across Lower High Street when the cycle, ridden by Frederick L. C. Austin, of Featherston, colided with him. He was taken to the Masterton Public Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious. GRANT APPROVED School for Tarigimoana Palmerston North, March 17. Advice to the effect that a. grant has been approved for the erection of a school at Taugimoana has been received by Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., from the Minister of Education, Hon. R. Masters. It is expected that there will be enrolment of about 20 pupils when the new school is erected.
