RELIEF CAMPAIGN
Island Bay Organisation All local organisations at Island Bay are to co-operate in a campaign to relieve distress in that district. This was decided upon at a representative meeting held in the Salvation Army Hall, Island Bay, on Friday evening. After stating that the meeting had been convened by the inter-church unemployment relief committee, the chairman, Mr. O. J. Howarth, said that for three years the committee had _ been able to give some measure of relief to over 100 families in the district. Owing, however, to the depletion of tlie Mayor’s Fund, the committee was faced with the position of having to raise most of its funds locally. As it was felt that this was the work of the whole community rather than that of an interchurch committee, it had decided to seek the co-operation of all local organisations. A strong committee was set up to draft the campaign.
