BARRON CUP FINAL

Yachting at Paremata and Porirua Harbour • Avalon was first away in the third and final ra.ee for the Barron Cup, sailed on Porirua Harbour on Saturday last. The contest took place in a freshening breeze, Miss Josephine taking the lend on the beat after the run down one side of the triangular course. The finishing times were:— Miss Josephine, shr. 13min. SOsec.; Kia’Ora. shr. ISmin.; Avalon, shr. 18min. SOsec.; Iluia, sbr. 20min.; Kewpie, shr. 20min. sscc. All the boats except the Avalon carried crews of three men, the Avalon having four lightweights. This race gave Paremata the Barron Cup for the 193334 season. Races for the first and second classes were held at Paremata on Sunday, and with a strong wind and practically no tide, the boats registered fast times, the Miss Josephine breaking the course record by completing the No. 1 course in lhr. Bmin. 4scc. In the first-class race there were five starters, the Kewpie (7min.), Kotuku (3 min.), Queenie (2min. 30see.), Avalon (linin. 3050e.1, and Miss Josephine (sen). Of these, only three finished, the Kewpie having to retire on the wind and the Kotuku breaking her mast when lying third. The finishing order and sailing limes were as follow: —Miss Josephine, lhr. Smin. 4sec.; Queenie, lhr. 15min. 42sec.; Avalon, lhr. 17inin. 19sec, In the second-class race the Noleen had an easy win from the Nustar. The Silver Dawn carried away her shrouds and retired. The Nustar carried three men and a jib all the way. hut the Noleen carried a leader off jhe wind, and went very well.
