Cyclone in Queensland SEVENTY-TWO LIVES LOST AT SEA By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received March 16, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 16. A Cairns message states that the latest survey shows that 72 persons perished as a result of luggers and launches being overwhelmed in the cyclone on Monday. Stories are arriving of the ruination of farms in the far north. Beyond Cooktown banana plantations were completely demolished, and every building wrecked. Five settlers at Almason are absolutely ruined. The sea rose to a height of 30 feet, compelling them to seek safety on higher ground.
