New “Cinephone” Pictures (From “The Dominion,” March 17, 1909). Messrs Fuller will introduce to their patrons next Saturday night, at the Theatre Royal, the latest developments in talking and singing pictures, under the style of the “cinephone.” The cinephone is said to be a perfect combination of the kinematograph and the phonograph and is quite different from all other “singing picture machines.” Every voice and action, it is claimed, is in perfect synchronisation with the movements of the actors or singers. [Note: The site of the Theatre Royal is now occupied by the Central Police Station. The theatre fronted Johnston Street.] .* * • The warships in Port. Jackson and Hobson’s Bay, Melbourne, succeeded in establishing wireless communications. Several messages were exchanged. The Australian naval authorities are convinced 1 that it is only a matter of time when a wireless service will be in operation between the ships of the Australasian Squadron and the various ports.

The Italian police are in a. state of trepidation owing to the intention of exPresident Roosevelt and his wife, and three children to visit Messina, which is a stronghold of the Mafia.

A harbour for airships is being erected at Metz. Others are projected : they will be made at Cologne and Friedrichshafen. A British naval airship with a 40 horse-power motor is in course of construction at Portsmouth.
