FEBRUARY’S FIRES

Gorse, Grass and Rubbish LOW PROPERTY LOSS During February 78 alarms were received by the Wellington Fire Brigade. Of these 63 were actual fires and 15 false alarms. Of the actual fires only 8 were property, one was a chimney fire, and 54 were gorse, grass or rubbish fires. Of the false alarms 5 were justifiable, and 10 were malicious. During the eleven months ended February 28 a grand total of 688 fire alarms were received by the brigade. • Of those 469 were for actual fires, and 219 were false alarms. Of the 469 actual fires in the eleven months, 152 were property fires, 68 chimneys, and 249 were calls to gorse, grass and rubbish There were 79 justifiable and 140 malicious false alarms.
