WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES IN WELFARE WORK
The Boys’ Institute. The monthly meeting of the Boys' Institute Ladies’ Auxiliary was presided over by Mrs. J. Hislop. The director reported that the number of boys in the boarding establishment bad been increased by four during the month. The reports of committee members who had visited the home during the month were received and proved entirely satisfactory. At the close of the meeting a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. L. T. Watkins, bon. president, for a donation of £1 toward the funds of the auxiliary. Appreciation was also expressed for the generous gifts made to the boarding establishment by Mr. A. Hawker, grocer, of Tasman Street, from time to time. Women’s National Reserve. The first meeting this year of th® Wellington South Circle of the W.N.R. working for the Residential Nursery was held recently, when the president, Mrs. Loasby, greeted the members with good wishes for the year, Mrs, Dobsop, secretary, gave an account of the doings of the circle since the last meeting. Gifts from members included 5/and a parcel of clothing from Mrs W. H. Nash and a gift of apples from Mrs. Briarley. Mrs, Mark Smith was unanimously elected treasurer and received all subscriptions paid in, and a donation of 3/6. Plans were discussed with regard to raising money to help the funds. Afternoon tea, dispensed by Mrs. Loasby, brought a' pleasant afternoon to a close. The W.D.F.U, A meeting of the Wellington Central Provincial Executive of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in Marton recently. Mrs. Ward, Dominion president, wflo was present, was accorded a most enthusiastic reception, Delegates from Tailpipe, Hmiterville, Tutaenui, Turakina, Feilding, Palmerston North and Marton’ attended. The morning was devoted to a discussion of remits and the need for better organisation. Mrs. Niederer, a South Island vice-president, now resident in Palmerston North, was appointed district organiser. Funds were subscribed and plans made for her tour. Mrs. Ward spoke of the work being done by the Dominion executive, and the cases helped by the Bush nurse and housekeeping scheme. Above all, she urged the loyal support of the divisions, and made suggestions for enlivening their meetings with play readings, debates and demonstrations of handcraft, and urged their support co the League of Nations.
