Races, Cricket, Tennis, and Athletics PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY To-day’s sports programme includes racing at Trentham, cricket finals, tennis, and athletics, as well as many other activities. Some of the principal attractions are given below: — Cricket Competition. The last series of senior cricket matches will commence this afternoon and it is expected that the games at the Basin Reserve between Kilbirnie and Petone and Wellington and Old Boys will be watched by a large crowd. Two other senior fixtures will be between University and Midland at the Kilbirnie Reserve and Institute and Hutt at the Hutt Recreation Ground. All games are to start at two o’clock. L&wn Tennis. Matches in the following grades of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's inter-club competitions will _ be played at Miramar this afternoon : First division men, third division women, fourth B, fifth and sixth divisions. Wellington Races. The second day of the Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting will be held at Trentham to-day. The first race is timed to start at 12.5 p.m. University Sports. Eighteen championship an(J two open handicap events will figure on. the programme of the Victoria University College annual inter-faculty sports to be held at Kelburn Park, commencing at 2.30 o’clock this afternoon. Athletes who have played a prominent part in open competition this season will be seen in action. ■ Golf Matches. The usual matches for this time of the year will be played on the various golf courses over the week-end. A medal round will be played on the Shandon links this afternoon. Bowls. The principal event on the bowling greens to-day will be the final of the senior pennant competition, to be played between Hataitai and Petone at the Victoria club’s green this afternoon. Croquet. The Wellington champion of champions croquet tournament, which commenced yesterday, will be continued on various city and suburban lawns throughout the day. Yacht Racing. This afternoon the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club will conduct a series of races, starting and finishing off Clyde Quay Wharf. First-class keel yachts will race for the Turnbull Cup and sec-ond-class boats for the Bothamley Cup, while a race will be arranged for 18ft. and under centreboard craft.
