OVER £250 GIVEN
Plunket Day Collection
Little white badges pinned to lapels and to frocks reminded people in the streets of Wellington early yesterday that the local branch of the Plunket Society was making its appeal for funds. The weather lent its assistance to the collectors on the corners, for a brilliant sun, tempered by a light northerly, enticed people into the city. Over £250 will be paid into the funds of the Wellington branch as the result of the day’s labour. The exact total was not available when the work of emptying the boxes and counting their contents, which ranged from coppers to paper money and .cheques, was suspended for the night. While this total may not be as great as the proceeds from some previous street days, it is almost entirely the result of gifts. Nothing was sold on the, streets, but a shop was conducted in the T. and G. Building. Furthermore, there was no canvassing and the appeal was solely to those in the street. ■
