HOUSE FLAG GIVEN

Gift to Free Ambulance From Bowling Club PRESENTATION CEREMONY The great service that is being given by the Wellington Free Ambulance was commented on by several speakers yesterday morning during the ceremony of presenting to the institution its new house flag, made and donated by members of the Victoria Bowling Club. The ceremony took place in the meeting hall of the ambulance building. The president of the Wellington Free Ambulance, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, said the dignity of the ambulance’s colours amounted to a great deal, and they were very pleased to have such a large gathering present. Mentioning that Mr. Norwood, founder of the Free Ambulance in Wellington, had been a member, of the Victoria Bowling Club for more than 30 years, Mr. J. C. Port, the club president, said that, acting on the suggestion of another of their old members. Mr. J. S. Keith, the club had thought it an extremely happy idea to present a house flag. It was meant as a tribute to the high esteem in which they held Mr. Norwood, and the value of the ambulance service. Those responsible for the actual production of the large flag were Messrs. Keith, F. Roberts, and G. Middleton. He expressed the hope that for many years to come It would float over the fine building. “No one can know when sickness or accident may overtake him, and it is a great comfort to know that such an institution as the Wellington Free Ambulance is, as its motto states, ‘always ready,’ at such times,” said Mr. Keith in endorsing Mr. Port’s remarks about the institution.

In reply, Mr. Norwood said that the kind thought of the club for the ambulance had touched him deeply. The Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, spoke briefly, stating that the Hospital Board and the Free Ambulance were co-operating to do a magnificent service to the community. He congratulated members of the ambulance on the splendid standard of efficiency they had maintained. Mr. C. M. Turrell, chairman of the Harbour Board, also spoke.
