The Fernery New Plymouth’s View Spot. ipO the lovers of gardening, New Plymouth offers many attractions, but one always to be found in popular demand is the fernery of Mr. F. Parker, in Devon Street, New Plymouth. Hundreds of visitors to the garden city have visited this attractive display every day, and as it really is worth seeing. Originally Mr, Parker started his fernery as a hobby, but to-day he has a full-time job attending to thousands of potplants, ferns, and one of the most attractive out-door gardens in New Zealand. For compact, original and perhaps unique lay-out, the grounds surrounding the fernery make a very beautiful setting. Plants and shrubs of expensive and rare variety form a basis of his garden. Situated on his front lawn, which is on an elevated site, Mr. Parker has a large crystal ball 2 feet in diameter. Although many overseas tourists visit this beauty spot, they all acclaim this crystal ball as the largest they have ever seen. The reflections of views of the” town obtained from this ball are of great interest to visitors, and to obtain these views alone it is well worth visiting The Fernery. _ . Of course the ferneries are the main attraction, and here is to be found a very large collection, of maidenhair ferns, thousands of bright flowering begonias, and hundreds of other rare pot plants.
