Fanning), and Pikiao (RMarsh), on- the course proper’, Wi s.x furlongs against the bit in 1.214. Pikiao went particularly well. - Silver ■ Song- - (O. - Stratton), •; on the plough, did her six furlongs nicely m l.lbi to-go better than recent efforts. Pukehou (L. Berry), on the same .track, ran three furlongs in the good time Hukemanu (J. Webbey) finished well clear of White Fang (A., Griffiths)_at the end of a-mile on the plough inT.47j. On hid track work, it is. difficult to explain how Hukernanu, has not .won a race ere this. . ~ , Pitfall (P. . Atkins) by. herself and doing it well, ran-onee roundlin 1.42—-a very fair effort. This mare is oije that may surprise in . the very near future. Shirred Ribbon (R. Marsh) made no race of Bold Bid (B. Boyle) over’half a mile on the course proffer in o2sec. lae former' Garter .Blue filly .. impresses as a likely .sort with a little more time. In a working gallop of three-quarters of a mile on the plough Dusky Grown (S. Fanning) and Royal Shift (A. Weaver) took 1.22. . Mana Gift (A. Griffiths) was well clear of Abbey Feale (P. Atkins) at the end of five furlongs on the grass m the very fair time of :C4Jsec., the first two furlongs in 24-Jsec. . On the course proper Queens 1 ride (B. Ladv Wessex finished ahead of Royal Record over half a mile on the plough hi 7»2’i sec. • . , , On the same track Asturisca (1. Atkins) and Speed (R. Marsh) accomplished the best gallop of the morning to run six furlongs in l.lGj, Despite the good time recorded both did it without effort r l?arph<i (A. Griffiths) and Gold (P. Atkins) were set a working gallop only to run seven furlongs in 1.47. Sir Nigel (S.- McNaughton), Fondle (R. Marsh), and Goshawk (P. Atkins) were sent once round in company. Sir Nigel, carrying a light weight naturally, had the best of matters, but all the same Fondle went fairly well to finish alongside Sir Nigel in 1.421. With Goshawk three or four lengths to the bn.i. Cawbeen. a little on the sore side, was given trotting and. cantering exercises. She will fulfil her engagements at Napier, but unless a shower or two is experienced she will not be at her best. Stitch, who arrived on Monday with Pohika from Gisborne, was given slow work. This gelding looks in capital nick. Pohika. a Hunting Song colt, whoa-e--cen'tly ran second to Ya liestep m Gisborne.'lias. come, down . for the maiden, events, and looks a very likely -sort. Vanestep also arrived from Gisborne, but is’over-at Greehmeftdbws until after the Napier meeting. This three-year-old, Weathervane —Warstop filly, since winniiv- the double, up the coast last Oc.ober. has continued to improve.
