Masterton Cattle Fair A GOOD CLEARANCE Master-ton, December 14. Approximately 400 head of cattle of all classes was offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., at the supplementary cattle fair, held at Masterton yesterday. With the dry conditions prevailing in the Wairarapa and other districts a dull sale was predicted. Bidding was slow at the start, but brightened up later, competition for young steers being . particularly good. For certain classes of cattle, the sale was back on recent fairs, but generally prices were satisfactory. and practically a total clearance was made:—Fat cows, £2/16/- to £3; forward' £2 to £2/12/-; store cows, 38/- to £2; cull cows,. 20/- to 28/-; cows with calves. £2/6/- to £3/1/-; two-year heifers, 35/- to £2/4/-;. three-year heifers, 26/- to 3S/-; three-year steers. £3/4/- ' to;£3/16/-,; two-year.steers, £2 to £2 14/-; year steers, 34/- to £2/4/-. The’ New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Co.. Ltd.. ■ offered a •yarding, of 947 head, of station cattle at the fair. The bulk of the yarding was taken by outside buyers. Fat cattle and ■grown 'bullocks were a little easier than at previous fairs this spring,, but the female and younger steers were in keen 'demand and prices were well up to late rates. A small yarding offered by the New Zealand Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., was sold at the following prices:— Sheep: Fat wethers, 19/10, 20/6 to 21/-; 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 15/7.
